The destruction wrought by the Los Angeles wildfires is heartbreaking. This month, in support of those affected, $1 for every order placed will be donated to American Red Cross.

Perforated Paper Printing: Layout Help

On this page, you'll learn what perforated paper is and the various terms used to describe a piece of perforated paper.

Illustrated below is a diagram of an 8.5x11 paper sheet. In this example, the paper is perforated to contain eight blank tickets, each with a perforated 1.5-inch ticket stub. Furthermore, there's a special perforated margin line at the bottom of the page to eliminate an unprintable area.

What is perforation in paper?

A perforation is a line of small holes punched into the paper. These holes enable you to easily separate the different parts of the paper by folding and tearing along the dotted line. This process results in pieces of uniform size with nice, clean edges, ensuring a clean finish to your projects.

Perforated paper is a handy option for projects that require separate pieces from one sheet of paper. Simply select a suitable perforated layout, design your project, and print using your printer or copier.

It’s great for printing tickets and business cards. You can also use it to create office forms like invoices and appointment reminder cards. You can also use it to print rack cards, invitations, bookmarks, shelf talkers, and more.

Example perforated paper showing 7 perforations on a standard size piece of paper

In the diagram shown above, the paper has a total of seven perforated lines on it. Specifically, there are:

Quantity Type Purpose
4 Ticket Separation Lines To separate tickets along columns and rows
2 Stub Lines To separate stubs from tickets
1 Margin Lines To separate the printable area of a ticket from the unprintable area of the ticket

What Makes Perforated Printer Paper So Great?

Perforated card stock saves you time!

Consider this scenario: you need to print 100 individual tickets for an event or raffle. Hand-cutting each piece after printing would be time-consuming, and you'd likely end up with pieces lacking in uniformity.

All that irregularity looks unprofessional, which doesn't make a great impression. Perforated pages make it easy to print and tear along the dotted line. You'll have your project finished and looking terrific in no time.
